Memorial Reading Marathon for Julio Monteiro Martins, Dec. 27, zoom live
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

December 24, 2024 marks ten years since the premature passing of Brazilian/Italian writer Julio Monteiro Martins, important cultural figure from whose work The Dreaming Machine draws its name, and whose writings we have consistently published over the years. His Italian language poetry collection, La grazia di casa mia, Rediviva 2013 (The Grace of My home) been translated into English by Don Stang and Helen Wickes, a great number of the poems have been published in this journal as well as in many literary journals in the US and The Antonym in India. We hope for a timely release of a dual language Italian / English version, translated by Stang and Wickes, as well as a re-issue of his entire works in Italian, as most of them are no longer in print.

To honor his memory and to give a glimpse into the breadth and depth of his work both a writer and as an intellectual figure to people who were not exposed to his work when he was alive, both in Italy and Brazil, 31 Italian and Brazilian writers and friends will hold an online zoom marathon reading from his works on Friday December 27, from 6,30PM to 9,00 PM Central European Time. To view the complete video of the reading marathon posted on YouTube, go to this link

https://youtu.be/k_Gih-IqhFE
