*

Like in a period movie
we, then, are the aliens
exterminated by the virus. We
the parasite infesting
the planet on fire
as we wave about our ranks
in an Apocalypse
that fits us to a T.

Come in un film d’epoca
gli alieni dunque siamo noi
sterminati dal virus. Noi
i parassiti che infestano
il pianeta in fiamme
le stellette sventolando
dell’apocalisse
che ci sta a pennello addosso.

This implacable
stillness sucks us into
messy rooms
of pandering syllables
exploring the void’s new
carnal meaning, it obviously
has at least a little shine to it

Questa implacabile
immobilità a risucchiarci
nel disordine
delle stanze in sillabe
ruffiane che del vuoto
esplorano un nuovo senso
carnale insomma evidente
che almeno un poco brilli

Life that is not only
pre-recorded to its usual refrain
like a donkey lowering its gaze and shaking it off
as it mutters to itself:

It’s always better than nothing

la vita non soltanto
differita al solito refrain
di un somaro occhi bassi e spallucce
che tra sé e sé bofonchia

è sempre meglio di niente.

*****************************************

Summer shall come
after capitulations and implosions
and shall find us unprepared for the sun’s invitation.
A sinister thud the refrain

it will never be like before!

Da rese e implosioni verrà
l’estate e impreparati ci troverà
all’invito del sole. Un tonfo
sinistro il replay

mai sarà come prima!

A twine
of fossils from the lower depths
fish glowing in the dark
Lighting up like
ethereal streetlights.

Un intreccio
di fossili dai fondali
pesci che nel buio
si accendono come diafani
lampioni.

We on the mainland
are now saints and heroes
killers and usurers
processing –an animal-like
terror still stamped
on our pupils

Sulla terraferma
ci siamo noi ora santi ed eroi
assassini usurai
in processione – il terrore
animale ancora impresso
nelle pupille

a lingering smell of death
from the days that are over, it’s not
from that pathogen,
even the silence of the Epochs
couldn’t disturb that

della morte nei giorni
finiti rimane
l’odore non per quel
patogeno che nemmeno
il silenzio delle Ere
potrebbe turbare

here instead in an unreal
limbo we are doomed to sort things out
and run laps around the condominium’s terrace-
setting records of stillness as we dig

qui invece in un limbo
irreale votati a far ordine e giri
da podisti sulla terrazza
condominiale – un record
per l’immobilità scavare

in this uncertainty our frail
lair, which, at the end of the day

saves us

nell’incerto la fragile
tana in fin dei conti

ci salva.

*********************************

All that has been
lives in a silence of its own
well deployed
in  its wings

Tutto quello che è stato
vive nel suo silenzio
ben dispiegato
con le ali

a blade
as sharp as the word
Love digging on the side
of a containment corset

una lama
affilata come la parola
Amore spinta nel fianco
di un corpetto di contenimento

so tight oh, yes, so tight
that we’ll have to struggle a long time
to take it off.

così stretto oh sì così stretto
che dovremo batterci a lungo
per togliercelo di dosso.

*************************************

It really has happened
all of a sudden, light
slipped away from me. I have no idea
where it went, just as happened to Peter Pan,
only that for him it was the shadow
from under his feet: A heads or tails
with the invisible.

E’ accaduto davvero
mi si è sfilata di punto in bianco
la luce. Non so dove si sia
cacciata come a Peter Pan
da sotto i piedi ma al contrario
l’ombra. Un testa e croce
con l’invisibile.

Declaring my love to light
was of no use, not even
a drop took a step forward
even a tiny glimmer to let me take a peek
at it, instead, on purpose

Dichiararle il mio amore
è stato inutile nemmeno
una stilla si è fatta avanti un minimo
spiraglio per poterla sbirciare
la luce invece a farlo apposta

it is shadow that is alight
and in turn with its twin accomplice teases
my little EGOS
as though it were a mouse

mi si illumina
l’ombra che a turno con l’altra
complice gemella i miei
piccoli IO stuzzica come col topo

in the paws of a cat
that  is said to hide in the slit
of its almond shaped eyes

an Infinity no one can reach.

un gatto che dicono
nella fessura a mandorla
degli occhi nasconda

l’infinito dove nessuno giunge.
