This and that, you should say,
is the only thing given to us
for this instant, that is for no one
and for everyone
Esto y aquello
Esto y aquello, deberías de decir,
es lo único que se nos ha dado
para este instante, que es de nadie
y para todos.
Dogs
Midday boys
they know they aren’t alone
because their buddies came forward to name them
friends of the day and the early
hours of October
rain dogs
are unheard voices
attempting to be memory keepers of the day
by hiding words under the ground
with their four paws
return to the mud
with the name of the poem
Los perros
Jóvenes del mediodía
saben que no están solos
porque acudieron a nombrarlos
amigos del día y de las primeras
horas de octubre
los perros de la lluvia
son voces inauditas
intentando ser memoria del día
esconden palabras en la tierra
con sus cuatro patas

Marriage
Married men and women
don´t know what else to tell each other,
poetry rises between them,
saying something different.
Casamiento
El hombre y la mujer casados
ya no saben qué más decirse,
entre ellos, la poesía se levanta,
dice algo distinto
Brotherhood
Between two high-minded siblings,
one of them wonders if the questions
his brother asks are the answers
to his unexpressed doubts.
Hermandad
Entre una noble pareja de hermanos,
uno de ellos se pregunta si las preguntas
de su hermano son las respuestas
a sus dudas no expuestas.
Involution
If in the constant progress of the journey
one question is revealed after another,
why has man become disinterested in advancing
if he is the complete and finite answer?

Si en el constante andar del camino
se va revelando una pregunta tras de otra;
¿por qué el hombre se ha desinteresado en avanzar
si él es la respuesta total y finita?
The man is dead
The man is dead
and will still be dying on subsequent days
until there is some certainty as to what happened
at the end of this life. Oh well, we can
leave death an unexplored territory.
Therefore, the absence of a man
over an indefinite amount of time constitutes his death.

El hombre está muerto
El hombre está muerto
y seguirá muriendo en los días sucesivos
hasta que se sepa qué ocurre con certeza
al final de esta vida. O bien, podemos
dejar la muerte como un territorio inexplorado.
Es decir, la ausencia del hombre
en un tiempo indefinido constituye su muerte.

embedded into memory
We know that it is up there
because they told us
humans plow the vested word
walk on regardless
their journey opens in the eyes of the day
things move away
slightly farther from them

insertado en la memoria

porque así nos lo dijeron
el hombre surca la palabra otorgada
camina sin miramientos
